Sir Georg Solti chose Catherine to teach his daughter the cello.


Ability Levels: Beginners to Advanced
I aim to have fun, learn fabulous music and make progress!

Qualifications: LRAM  ARCM 
Fee (30 minutes): £26 adults, £24 under-18s (£142 for six lessons in advance)

*Studied with Andre Navarra and has taught for over twenty years privately and in public and state schools.
*Played in the London Philharmonic Orchestra for 25 years (including working with the Education Department), the Lydian Piano Trio and other chamber ensembles (eg with Dame Thea King) as well as performing cello recitals. Chosen to teach Sir Georg Solti's daughter.
*ASV issued my CD of neglected and beautiful music for cello and piano by twentieth century British Women Composers.
*Taught cello at Wycombe Abbey School, Kingshott School (preparatory), Ashwell Primary School and taught at The Knights Templar School, Baldock. Now Catherine concentrates on private pupils at home.
*Can prepare pupils for music grade exams, has had great success.
 
*Takes part in events organised by ESTA (European String Teachers Association), Incorporated Society of Musicians, London Cello Society and Musicians' Union, Elmitt Piano Academy (eg Paul Harris talks) and regularly reads the Strad Magazine.


As well as lessons, pupils have the opportunity to take part in special cello events

 for example performing Beethoven variations with Dame Thea King, study sessions with William Bruce, Jennifer Ward-Clarke, Corinne Frost and Joely Koos. Pupils of mine have entered the Liezen International Cello Competition in Austria and one of my pupils has performed in the National Children's Orchestra.

The Incorporated Society of Musicians is the UK’s professional body for musicians.  Catherine has ISM Registered Private Teacher status and is Fellow of the ISM (FISM)

Individuals listed as ISM Registered Private Teachers have been through a stringent vetting process to demonstrate that they are professionally qualified, experienced music teachers who are not included on the barred lists maintained by the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA).


Requirements for listing as an ISM Registered Private Teacher are as follows:
..Possession of a DBS Enhanced Disclosure* applied for through the ISM specifically for the role of Private Music Teacher.
..Supporting reference from a pupil (if 18 or over) or the parent/guardian of a pupil ..Signed child protection declarations.

* A Disclosure is a document provided by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB), a government agency that provides a service to organisations to check the background of applicants to ensure that they do not have a history that would make them unsuitable for working with children, among others.
